Communities of Poway & Rancho Bernardo
The name of the beautiful valley of Poway (Pau-wi) is derived from the language of the Diegueno and Luiseno Indians, who roamed the area for several hundred years before the Spaniards arrived. Today, this scenic community boasts a population of more than 50,000 residents, who are able to enjoy breathtaking mountain views and mild weather year-round. Rancho Bernardo is a retirement community of 78,000 adjoining Poway.
For residents of Sunshine Care and their loved ones, it’s reassuring to know that Pomerado Hospital is across the way, adjacent to our 32 acre campus. The 107-bed, acute-care hospital offers a full range of health care services.
For visitors, Poway has something for just about everyone, whether it’s taking a hike on one of the 30 spectacular trails or seeing a Broadway musical in the Poway Center for the Performing Arts. Old Poway Park offers weekend train rides, a farmers’ market, old-fashioned shops, and a museum. Catch a fish, play golf, rent a paddleboat, have a picnic or enjoy a summer concert at Lake Poway. Take a tour of a winery and have fun at the Rodeo, street fairs, Poway Days Parade, Old-Fashioned Fourth of July, Christmas in the Park, or Train Song Festival.
The community offers a wide range of hotels and motels to meet your needs. Click here to see a list of accommodations from the Poway Chamber of Commerce.
