Healthy garden to table meals. Dementia and Alzheimers Care

At Sunshine Care, every meal is designed to nourish and delight our residents! Our unique location and acreage gives us the ability to produce over 20,000 pounds of organically grown fruits and vegetables a year in the vegetable gardens and fruit orchards on our property. These delicious and healthy crops that our residents help grow go right into our kitchens and enhance our daily menu. A “kitchen” herb garden gives our chef the opportunity to select freshly grown seasonings needed for daily recipes.

The essence of great meals is fresh ingredients and it’s not possible to acquire vegetables and fruits any fresher than those picked the same day. Our five week rotating menu provides a variety of dishes that serve to stimulate the appetite and insure that our residents’ nutrition is maximized. Complimentary meals are offered to family members to encourage visiting and interaction. It takes a team of family, physicians, management and staff for a successful outcome. We do everything on our part to guarantee a successful outcome and invite you to join us to enhance the golden days of your loved ones.

Our Residents Pitch In
Residents are invited to play a central role in this process by assisting in our gardens if they choose. Many enjoy getting their hands a little dirty as they help us plant seeds and pick the fruits and vegetables when they are ready! In this way, our residents actively participate in the food creation process and are able to directly enjoy the fruits (and vegetables) of their labor.

Focused on Delicious Nutrition
The essence of great meals is fresh ingredients, and it’s not possible to acquire vegetables and fruits any fresher than those picked the same day in our gardens. Our five week rotating menu provides a variety of dishes that stimulate the appetite, ensure that our residents’ nutrition is maximized, and tickle the taste buds. A clinical dietician monitors our menu and regularly comments on ingredients and portions. Recipes requiring sugar are reduced and supplemented with Stevia, crushed pineapple, and crushed apples promoting a more healthy result. Complimentary meals are offered to family members to encourage visits and interaction.
