Personalized Dementia Care with a Heart

At Sunshine Care, we treat your loved ones as members of our own family. Our overriding goal is to ensure that each one of our residents receives the physical, emotional, and spiritual care that we all deserve. To assist with estate planning, at the time of your assessment your base rate will be locked for your stay and is all inclusive. One can be forced out of some communities by rates increasing for incontinence, escalating personal care needs, enhanced security measures required for wandering and elopement safety, oxygen management, 2-person transfers, Hoyer lifting, night care, catheter care and/or colostomy care. Not at Sunshine Care, where Medication management, laundry services and special cognitive programs for the present or future that are appropriate to the individual are also included in the locked rate. This allows you to budget for the future no matter what needs occur for your loved one, making your estate planning very simple. In addition, a greatly reduced Entry Level rate is available. Should your loved one have only a diagnosis of MCI (Mild Cognitive Impairment), is continent, socially compatible with the resident population and does not require awake night care or assistive devices, they could be eligible for this reduced rate. This special Entry Level rate does not lock until the next level of care is reached, if ever.

During your stay, the base rate will only be effected by the cost of living increases or decreases that effect all of us annually, which has been between 1% and 3% over the past five years.

Personalized Dementia Care with a Heart

Our gorgeous, 32-acre campus includes seven luxury homes where our residents live in small groups under the care of highly trained live-in staff members. Our campus is filled with beautiful walking paths and lush gardens. Our residents enjoy a calendar filled with fun and stimulating activities; everything from daily exercise classes, to intergenerational programs, cognitive and horticulture therapy and holiday celebrations. We are especially proud of our comprehensive horticulture therapy program that allows our residents to participate in the cultivation of the organic fruits and vegetables that we use to make our meals.

A diagnosis of Alzheimer’s or dementia is often a scary and difficult experience for a family, especially when caring for your spouse, mother, father, or grandparents at home becomes overwhelming. Your loved one deserves the best care possible from qualified and empathetic caregivers.

A Unique Model of Care

One aspect that truly sets Sunshine Care apart from other care communities is our four-level model of care. Alzheimer’s and dementia are progressive diseases, which means your loved one will need an increasing level of care as time goes on. While other facilities may move your loved one to an entirely new location as their decline progresses or keep them mixed in with a general population, we follow a different code.

At Sunshine Care, our residents start in their own private rooms within the shared homes with others who require a similar level of care. As their condition and care needs progress, a resident moves into a new home/level to receive more assistance and supervision. All of our homes are on our campus, so the transitions are smooth and less disruptive. At each level of care, your loved one will receive the support, patience, and medical assistance he or she needs to continue to enjoy a high quality of life. A Commitment to Intergenerational Programming

We firmly believe that when different generations meet, everyone is the better for it. Children learn tolerance, patience, and empathy from our residents, while the children make our residents feel young again. Sunshine Care is an award-winning leader in the development of intergenerational programming at our facility.

Every week, groups of schoolchildren from the local community come to visit their surrogate grandmas and grandpas. Together, our residents and their new friends learn important lessons as they work together to build crafts, bake cookies, or grow organic fruits and vegetables in our garden. By lesson planning with the local teachers, the residents and children are both a part of the learning process. Learn more about our intergenerational programs. [Learn more]

Horticulture Therapy

One of the most unique things about Sunshine Care is our popular and successful gardening program. Our campus includes multiple vegetable gardens and fruit orchards, as well as a 1,000 square-foot greenhouse. Every year, with the help of our residents, we grow over 20,000 pounds of delicious, organic fruit and vegetables. Most of these crops end up on our menus, providing nutritious and delicious meals for our residents. What isn’t consumed by Sunshine Care is donated to needy families in the area.

Our horticulture therapy program is a fun way to encourage focus, exercise, confidence, and a reconnection with nature. Sunshine Care has also established and monitors horticultural and growing programs in over 20 schools and churches in the area.

Our beloved Seed-to-Table program pairs residents who choose to participate with young children from the community. Together, young and old gardeners plant seeds, care for the seedlings, and eventually pick the ripe fruits and vegetables.

Sunshine Care is truly unique from other assisted living and memory care programs. Our care model ensures that every resident receives personalized care. Our activity program is filled with engaging and rewarding adventures. Our campus in San Diego County is truly beautiful and uplifting, and our highly-trained staff is second-to-none. The best way to fully understand what sets Sunshine Care apart from the rest is to come visit and see for yourself!
